About Tū Mana

Four people engaged in a thoughtful outdoor conversation by the water.

Tū Mana means standing in mana.

For us, this means supporting people to be seen clearly, not reduced to their worst moment, diagnosis, addiction, offence, or history of harm. It also means holding accountability, safety, and responsibility alongside dignity, identity, whānau connection, and the possibility of change.

Tū Mana Consultants was created to work in the space where justice, health, trauma, addiction, culture, and rehabilitation overlap. We provide specialist assessments, counselling, and supervision for people, whānau, counsel, practitioners, and services navigating complex circumstances.

Our work is independent, practical, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive. We aim to help people and systems make better decisions by providing clear assessments, sound formulation, and realistic pathways forward.

Our Approach

Tū Mana’s approach is grounded in four commitments:

Clinical Clarity

We assess addiction, mental health, trauma, psychosocial stressors, risk, protective factors, and treatment needs in a structured and clinically responsible way.

Cultural Responsiveness

We recognise that identity, whakapapa, whānau, belonging, wairua, cultural disconnection, and historical context can be central to wellbeing, accountability, and change.

Practical Rehabilitation Planning

We focus on what can realistically happen next. Recommendations are linked to actual needs, available supports, risk management, and treatment pathways.

Mana-Enhancing Practice

We work respectfully, carefully, and honestly. We do not minimise harm, nor do we cause people harm. Our work aims to support accountability, safety, healing, and long-term change.

Referral Pathways

Tū Mana accepts referrals and enquiries from:

  • defence counsel
  • Public Defence Service and Legal Aid matters
  • private clients and whānau
  • probation and case managers
  • addiction and mental health providers
  • community organisations
  • residential rehabilitation services
  • practitioners seeking supervision or consultation

For justice-facing assessments, the most helpful first step is to provide the court date, referral purpose, custody or bail status, and any urgent timeframe.
